This Week in AFL Fantasy
Round 16 – Who stays and who goes.
Another high-scoring round, despite ever-popular captain Tom Michell failing to ton up.
At this time of year, I look to only have one solid player in each line on the bench, and downgrade the other to maximize your best team on the field.
Please note that this week there is another Thursday night game, so there is a partial lockout in place.
Always go for the rookies with the best job security first. And coming into the pointy end of the season there are fewer decent options coming through.
|P. Wilson||$185,000||MID, FOR||1||51.00||12|
|P. Ahern||$350,000||MID, FOR||5||70.60||14|
|D. Clarke||$181,000||MID, FOR||1||46.00||14|
|M. O’Connor||$209,000||DEF, MID||1||56.00||14|
|L. Keeffe||$253,000||DEF, FOR||3||55.30||16|
After the byes you should be looking at job security more than break-evens – as you just need adequate bench cover.

Noticeable Outs from Injury
Stay or Trade?
Michael Apeness (40) – Gave away 4 frees. But still has some growth. Keep
Brendon Ah Chee (42) – He’s done his dash, and is unlikely to reach his break-even of 72. Trade
Hunter Clark (38) – Won’t reach his break-even, and doesn’t average well enough to keep. Trade
Tom Cole (34) – Gave away 3 frees and only 8 touches. Won’t reach his break-even of 70, so trade. Trade
Brayden Crossley (33) – Gave away 4 frees, playing forward on Tarrant. Only has a break-even of 40, so I’d keep him for another round. Keep
Ed Curnow (61) – Played a lock-down role on Zorko and Beams. Doesn’t look to be returning to his best form. I would upgrade him if you can. Trade
Charlie Curnow (46) – Inconsistent at the best of times, but has had some recent good form, so I’d persist with him. Keep
Lance Franklin (65) – Blicav’s kept him honest and he still kicked 4. Can bounce back to form. Keep
Billy Gowers (31) – Despite his excellent last two games he only managed 7 touches against the Hawks. Time to move him on before he starts losing money. Trade
Nick Holman (45) – Didn’t get a possession in the first quarter. He’s probably bench cover if you have him, but won’t reach his break-even. Consider trading. Trade
Will Hoskin-Elliott (18) – Got a knock to the knee. Check the injury report. Injured
Kieren Jack (22) – Left knee medial ligament. Won’t be back, so trade. Trade
Tom Jonas (51) – Left knee twisted in a tackle. Check the injury news. Injured
Patrick Lipinski (31) – Will start losing money, so time to trade him. Trade
Steven May (51) – Landed heavily on his right hip. Check the injury news. Injured
Jeremy McGovern (42) – Has a poor average in recent times. Trade. Trade
Brody Mihocek (33) – Still has another week before he starts losing money. Keep
Marc Murphy (69) – Carlton were soundly beaten. I think he can bounce back. Keep
Lachie Neale (59) – His 18 touches including 13 handballs. Hopefully he can reverse this in future games. Keep
Andrew Phillips (15) – Went off with a right hamstring strain. Check the injury news. Injured
Mitch Robinson (65) – Played mainly mid-field, so give him another week to see if he can get his confidence back. Keep
Luke Ryan (51) – Following his 35 last week? Ouch. One more week to return to form. Keep
Heath Shaw (60) – Shaw is Mr Inconsistent. Second poor week in a row. Next week against Richmond won’t be easier before a couple of easier games. Luxury trade – I’d probably keep him. Keep
Jack Steven (63) – None of the Saints scored well. Hopefully can turn things around. Keep
David Swallow (54) – Tagged by Jacobs. Essendon won’t tag him next week. Keep
Matthew Wright (24) – Not fantasy relevant. I’d trade him for that reason alone. Trade
Gary Ablett jnr (54) – Gave away a few frees. But the master could bounce back. Keep
